The New Maxwell Park

Sonoma County Regional Parks has updated the master plan for Maxwell Farms Regional Park, a community park in the Springs area of Sonoma Valley, adjacent to the City of Sonoma.

Maxwell Farms is a well-used and loved regional park, with approximately 163,000 visitors in the most recent annual count. Regional Parks developed the new master plan with extensive input from the community. Park planners balanced ideas for new features and infrastructure improvements with conservation objectives to chart an exciting and sustainable vision for the 85-acre park.

When complete, the enhanced Maxwell Farms Park will include two baseball diamonds, soccer fields, an off-leash dog park, tennis and pickleball courts, sand volleyball courts, a children’s play area, enhanced skatepark, bicycle pump track, photovoltaic array and nature trails.

Maxwell Farms is a popular park in northwest Sonoma with fields for soccer and baseball, tennis and volleyball courts, an accessible playground and picnic sites, and 2.5 miles of nature trails winding through 40 acres of backcountry.

The park is basically divided into two distinct areas: the "front country" area containing recreation infrastructure such as playing fields, picnic facilities, playgrounds, etc. in contrast to the "backcountry area" comprised of 2.5 miles of trails across 40 acres of open space. The trails in the section of the park are virtually level offering easy strolls through corridors of mature bay trees and across remnants of historic orchards.
